Re: Satirically

By the way, inspired by “The forgotten child” I’ve also compiled a Spotify playlist which is intended to include all their ballads. I’ve called it Pet Shop Boys Slush... I’m sure this is inspired by a title Chris suggested for a ballads album or compilation but can’t remember where this was quoted. ...

Thanks to everyone for their input. I think this is a fuller, better list than the new “official” o...

Re: Satirically

I Get Along? Hmmm... It's tricky this, isn't it? The thing is that it weren't for Neil's own commentary about the song, I wouldn't have necessarily had a clue as to who it was about. The satire or subject is not immediate... at least to these ears. “I’ve been trying not to cry when I’m in the publi...

Re: Satirically

In what way is "Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you)" satirical? Geowayne has a great explanation: It’s certain, however, that they had something much more in mind. In fact, this track is one of the most insidious deconstructions of rock mythology that you're likely to find...

Re: New EP on April: Agenda

GSAC - Its greatest crime is breaking what PSB are renown for: subtlety. This song is as subtle as clotted cream. Whereas 2006's Indefinite Leave to Remain used immigration status as metaphor for love, or the other way round, this just points at people with differing political opinion and calls the...

Re: Satirically

Building a wall could contain satirical elements but I’m not immediately sure what is being lampooned. A certain notion of Englishness? Thoughts appreciated.

Re: Satirically

Thanks everyone. I’m with stupid was an obvious oversight which I’ve now added - thank you. I think The former enfant terrible probably also qualifies, although there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of humour in the song! Fluorescent I am less sure about - some of the lyrics in the reworked version m...

Satirically

satire the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. I wanted to compile a playlist of Pet Shop Boys satirical songs, to put the new EP into the context of the ca...

Surely he uses the American pronunciation here because he is paraphrasing Trump.

Re: Any insight...

My guess is they sat down with Stuart in their first meetings to discuss the new album and started to form a view on what kind of album they would make, and which tracks would best articulate this vision. At that point, when it would have become clear that the Agenda tracks were somewhat standalone,...

Re: New EP on April: Agenda

"On social media" is an absolute earworm and the video is their best since "Axis" probably. Communication's never been as easy as today... You can listen to "What are we going..." on Youtube. They tried to make the chorus sound euphoric but I don't think they succedeed. That's the least catchy out ...
